Bidnija Church

A hamlet situated a little distance from Mosta itself yet making part of the locality. Though in the past this small settlement made part of two other localities, as from 1964 Bidnija came within the precincts of Mosta.
Bidnija is a small rural village which is characterised by large tracts of agricultural land which sprawl around the hamlet. Evidence of the remoteness of this small settlement can be deduced from the fact that it remained deprived of even the most basic amenities for a long time. Suffice it to say that the first electrical supply line came to Bidnija in 1965.
Till 1920 there was not even a church for the spiritual needs of the inhabitants. Therefore this rural community decided to buy a piece of land and, on the design of master mason Salvu Zahra (1874-1960) from Mosta, they erected a church in a period of about two years.
Dedicated to the Holy Family of Nazareth, this church now serves the community in its religious needs. The titular painting is the work of Ganni Vella (1885-1977) while the titular statue of the Holy Family is by the statuary Wistin Camilleri (1885-1979).

The Full moon - Birzebbuga

Yesterday evening we had a full moon, so I got my tripod out (which I hardly use) attached an extra lens to my camera placed myself in our balcony and started to take shots of the moon. I cannot express how hard it was (for me) to get a good close one without going out of focus. Here are some of the ones I think are good.

Beach, Sea , Sand and lots of heat!!

Here on the island of Malta at the moment we are facing some tough heat and humid weather. The only place to be is either at the beach (and that is late after 5pm) or tucked away nicely at home in the comfort of aircondition. So I decided that I show you pictures of where my children and I are spending most of our afternoons. Sometimes it is too hot to get out of the house at any time!!

Go-carting in Ta' Qali Village

On Friday evening my husband and I had tickets to go go carting in Ta'Qali. It was a new experience for both of us and even though I did not actually drive (cause I gave my ticket away) I can say that it is a lot of fun even watching. I could not get very good shots, (I still have to learn a lot about night shots with moving objects!). I wish you all a nice Sunday.

Birzebbuga Promenade

For the next three days I will post a photo showing the Birzebbuga Promenade, where in the summer evenings it is full of people either sitting down eating an ice-cream or walking off that extra weight, or just enjoying a stroll. I shall start from here and then move towards the right side. I am sure that this will please Berzy from down under!!

Thirsty?

Yesterday evening after coming back from the beach we found in our balcony this pigeon. It was not scared of us cause it did not move, we realised that the poor thing was probably thirsty and tired. It chose our balcony for one reason we had a bucket full of water from the air condition pipe. I couldn't get a good photo of it as of the position it chose to stay for her rest.

Northern Malta , landscape

Yesterday my family and I went on a day trip to the Island of Gozo. This gave me an opportunity to get some photos of the northern part of the Island and Gozo itself. The weather was very hot and humid in the morning and lense of the camera kept getting foggy!! These two photos taken from Mellieha showing the landscape and country side of the northern part of malta.

Info. Birzebbugia is at the southern end of Malta and to cross up to Cirkewwa which is at the northern end takes approximately 50 minutes depending how one drives. Malta is not a big island. If you google earth it you can see how big it is or small for that matter. I must add though that even though this island is small it is rich in history and culture ........ and sun too!! Good day everyone.

Fireworks Championship - Mqabba

St. Mary's Club Band of Mqabba, Malta this year entered for the first time the world fireworks championship known as Caput Lucis Festival, held in Rome Italy and Won first price with flying colours!! Taking part in this festival where China, Japan, Italy, Spain, England, Romania and Slovenia. Well done Malta. This display of fireworks was once again shown yesterday at the Mqabba village for their Festa, 'Santa Marija'. Being tipped off by my dear friend I went to see the display yesterday evening at 10pm and tried to capture as much as I can in photos. I took over 52 photos but obviously can't post all so I will try and limit to a small number of photos.

300th Post!!!!

Today is my 300th post!! Thank you all for visiting my blog and often leaving comments.

For this I am posting two photos taken yesterday from my camera. Earlier this year I posted a photo of the prickly pear tree, now here is the prickly pear tree in full bloom with the fruit ready to be cut (first photo) second photo is the fruit itself once the thick prickly skin is removed. The fruit has a lovely taste and must be kept in the fridge for a more refreshing taste.

Some shade please and a small break thanks !!

Well for today I decided to look up a bit from my archive photos. Did not have to go far when I found these photos. This man was working on the facade of a new building in our street back in early July. I like the way he created some shade. It is hard working in this heat. I wish you all a nice week.

Golden Bay - Malta

Today I give you Golden bay in full glory!! This is one of the most beautiful beaches you can find on the islands of Malta. It is untouched and I love the way it is nestled between rocks. I really must handed out to Laetitia this time for the lovely shots she has taken of this bay, well done and thanks. Good Sunday to you all.

'Tal-Mara'

First of all I wish you all a happy weekend. Today I am posting photos of the maltese coastline. This part is called 'Tal-Mara' meaning it belongs to the woman. I am afraid I do not know the reason behind the name, I tried to look it up but found nothing. Hope you enjoy the photos which are once again provided by Laetitia.

Ramla Bay Hotel

This is the Ramla Bay Hotel, found in the northern part of the Island. Once again I have to thank Laetitia for the photos as I haven't taken any photos. To be honest it has been so hot that I go out only to buy groceries in the morning come back home and then go out late in the afternoon for a dip at the beach.

Now this is not the Ramla Hotel pool no no!! This is another hotel, the Riviera hotel pool, which is also found in the northern part of the island.

Paola Square - Paola

Paolo what in Maltese we call 'Rahal il-gdid' meaning new town, well not so new really but hey that's just the name. Today I take you thanks to some photos taken by Laetitia to the centre of Paola. I had mentioned once that we have three towns where to go shopping for clothes , jewels shoes hifi etc... and these are Sliema (shown a photo in previous posts) Valletta and Paola. Of course there is also a small shopping arcade in Gozo , Malta's other island, and one can find the some shops in the local towns and villages but the big shopping can be done here. Paola is 15 minutes drive away from Birzebbugia it has no beaches. Paola's attraction apart from the shopping is the Neolithic Temples and the Hypogeum, which are found in the part called Tarxien. I might go and get some photos from there to show you these temples.

The Fernandes

This yacht 'The Fernandes' organizes day trips and even night ones to and from Comino. They do parties to at night with music, drink etc...oh and night dips to into the Mediterranean :). Food and drink are served on board this lovely yacht. I have to mention here that when I saw this photo which was given to me by Leatitia (and saved me as I have no photos yet!!) I got a nostalgic happy feeling as my husband and I , then my boyfriend got engaged and had a party on this yacht. We had sailed around the islands and I can tell you that it was a wonderful and unforgettable night. Thanks for this photo my friend!!

Garden of Serenity

First of all, thank you all who posted a comment yesterday for my fireworks photos. It is always so encouraging to have feedback on my photos.
Today I'm posting several photos of a public garden which is situated in St.Lucia, a neighbouring village. It is called "The garden of serenity" and it has an oriental style, something totally different to what we are used to seeing in Malta.
I had never been before to see this garden, although it's only 10 mins away by car, but thanks to dailyphoto, I decided to visit and take photos, and I was pleasantly surprised as it is a very beautiful garden and has a totally serene atmosphere, hence the name of this garden.
