Sea Urchin

..small spiny sea creature found in oceans all over the world. They are members of the 'phylum echinodermata' which includes starfish, sea cucumbers, brittle stars and crinoids.
Humans consume sea urchin (roe) raw or briefly coked, popular in Korean cuisine and called 'uni' in Japanese sushi cuisine.

I hope you were careful picking it up; it looks quite lethal. I've never tasted sea urchin but like most fish and shell fish.

Ruth, this was caught by Laetitia's husband and am sure he was careful. My grandmother used to catch them and eat them there and then she used to say they are delicious , I have never tried them either.

Better not walk on them, but I can tell you that they taste good, like most fresh seafood! I have of course a preference for oysters.

Not me. I don't eat anything that looks like that. At least I don't think I do.

I am all for letting sea urchins live a peaceful life in the oceans of the world.

I'm with abraham, in fact I got Joe to put it back in the sea after he had shown it to our kids.
Funnily enough they had never seen one before considering they spend most of their time at the beach, but sadly a lot of sealife is being destroyed by pollution.

I have eaten sea urchins but this was during WW2 when we were hungry and would it anything. They taste like sea food.

in Maltese they are called 'rizzi' (plural) or 'rizza' for one.

Some fishermen used to sell them in the street, door to door. They would clean them for you too.

Uh, no I never felt the urge to taste them either. Nasty things if you step on them though.

Yikes! I wouldn't want to step anywhere near that.

I prefer the sea urchins just open and to clean.
Then to eat them with a small spoon with aperitif.
