This morning I had another subject in mind and I am still debating whether I should do a post on the matter or not. So before I do the post I've decided to ask you what you think about 'illegal immigrants' pouring into your country by the 100's weekly.
The photo I took a couple of months ago, however I decided to post this particular photo as this is a drowning matter. Please feel free to comment.

Ouch - poor boat. Illigal immigration is a hot topic in So Cal too. I'm not against it except for the part about it being AGAINST the law. But Calif, US, & the US economy is so big, that it can "absorb" a lot of immigrants. I think it would be very hard for small countries to cope without severe economic impact to all legal citizens of the country.
tash, you are so right, infact this has become a huge issue here on Malta, and the reason being Malta is way too small and our economy is not that strong either. These people flee their countries in search of a better life and here there isn't even enough space to house them let alone!!!!
My experience has been that immigrants, legal and illegal, go where the work is, usually crop harvesting and disaster recovery work. They want to work and do a the kinds of jobs that others don't want to do. Different communities deal with it individually. A small area like Malta would have a special set of problems that others might not.
When someone dies in the process of immigrating, it must be an act of desperation that put them in that position. So sad.
I am totally against illigal immigration, maybe yeah! I am lucky not be one myself, but hey! that's life.I been around in some of the poorest places in Africa and I can assure you I helped these people the best I could,so I am not being prejudist here.
I think the best solution would be to have bigger economies to help these people in their own native country.
It obviously depends on the impact of immigrants on the place they are heading too, and the ability of that place to cope (as others have said). It’s a tricky one, because most places have ‘caps’ on ‘legal’ migration, and every spot taken (potentially) threatens the spot of a ‘legal’ migrant. In Australia, this *might* mean (for example), a (relatively) wealthy person entering at the expense of an African who has waited for five years in a refugee camp.
It is a really, really tricky one.
I had no idea it was so bad. I too live on an island, I came over from england but my island is part of the British Isles. The Uk has the smae problems, but there seems to be no solution. It is sheer deaperation these people leave their homeland, but to go where is a trikcy one.
Anonymous legal Immigrant (since we don;t know who you are). When you will live in a small island like malta and pay our taxes etc, than maybe you will be able to see a clearer picture on what is going on here on our island. This is nothing to do with being white or black, MALTESE people are considered to be a friendly bunch and we are however due to this others step on us and take advantage too, which is not really nice considering that we house them feed them and also give them work. You have no right in accusing any of cultures. I can tell you one thing that maybe you do not know, 'we 'fucked up' culture do not stand in the middle of road and bang and hit on our hosts' cars and say rude words'' Go and do some more research before pointing your finger otherwise you will be like one of us aswell my friend.
To the LEGAL IMMIGRANT who posted a comment as anonymous, we are here discussing ILLEGAL immigration and whether they are black, white or techni coloured doesn't come into it. Our main concern is the huge economic problems this is causing our very SMALL island, which when you compare it to your country is a like a hairpin in a haystack (to use that saying), so please note that this has nothing to do with racism, which obviously you have aproblem with!
And one more thing, we are the only country who is accepting hundreds of immigrants EVERYDAY while other larger countries turn them away even before they get to their shores!!!
Well said Marie6.
